How do dual remote backups work?

Your server is backed up to two independent offsite systems, Proxmox Backup Server plus S3-compatible object storage, and restores are test-verified weekly. A backup that is never tested is a hope, not a backup.

How it works, technically

Two systems, two failure domains. PBS takes efficient incremental, deduplicated backups of the full server, ideal for fast whole-machine restores. Independently, backups also land in S3-compatible object storage, a different technology in a different location, so no single fault, bug, or compromise can reach both copies.

The part most providers skip: verification. Weekly, restores are actually exercised, because the only proof a backup works is a restore that worked. Combined with daily snapshots for quick same-day rollbacks, the layers cover everything from a bad deploy five minutes ago to a full rebuild from either offsite copy.

How fast is a restore?

Same-day snapshots roll back in minutes. Full restores from PBS depend on data size but are run with you by a human, at any hour, included in the price.

Are backups encrypted?

Backup traffic and storage follow current best practice for encryption in transit and at rest on both systems.

Why two systems instead of one good one?

Because backup failures are correlated with their technology: a PBS bug cannot eat an S3 object, and vice versa. Independence is the feature.
