Step-by-step guide to creating user and reseller accounts in DirectAdmin: setting packages, assigning IPs, and giving clients login access.

Updated August 2026

Creating a reseller account

Resellers can create their own users and manage their clients independently.

  1. Log into DirectAdmin as Admin.
  2. Go to Admin Level → Create Reseller.
  3. Fill in:
    • Username: lowercase, max 8 characters
    • Email: reseller’s contact email
    • Password: set a strong one or generate
    • Domain: the reseller’s primary domain
    • IP: select Shared (or a dedicated IP if available)
  4. Select a Reseller Package: defines their total resource quota.
  5. Click Create.

The reseller can now log into DirectAdmin at port 2222 with their credentials and create their own users.

Creating a user account

Users are end-users who manage their own websites. They can be created by an admin or by a reseller.

  1. Log in as Admin or as the reseller who will own the account.
  2. Go to Admin Level → Create User (or Reseller Level → Add New User).
  3. Fill in username, email, password, and primary domain.
  4. Select a User Package.
  5. Set IP to Shared (or dedicated if appropriate).
  6. Click Create.

Giving clients their login

Provide your client with:

  • URL: https://YOUR_SERVER_IP:2222 or your branded hostname
  • Username: the username you created
  • Password: the password you set

Users log in and see only their own account. They can manage their domains, email, databases, and files.

Listing and managing accounts

Admin Level → List All Users: see every user on the server, their resource usage, and login as any of them.

Admin Level → List All Resellers: see all resellers, their quotas, and how many users they have.

Suspending and unsuspending

To temporarily disable an account:

  1. Admin Level → List All Users → click the account
  2. Click Suspend: their website shows a suspended page and FTP/email is disabled
  3. To restore: click Unsuspend

Deleting an account

Deletion is permanent: Deleting an account removes all files, databases, and email. Take a backup first.

  1. Admin Level → List All Users → click the account
  2. Click Delete User → Confirm
