Create a Hosting Package in WHM

A hosting package is a reusable template of resource limits. Instead of setting quotas individually for each account, you create a package once and assign it when creating accounts. This guide covers creating, editing, and managing packages.

Creating a package

1. Log into WHM and go to Packages → Add a Package.
2. Enter a Package Name: something descriptive like Basic-5GB or Agency-50GB.
3. Set Disk Space Quota in MB: e.g. 5120 for 5 GB. Enter 0 for unlimited.
4. Set Monthly Bandwidth in MB: e.g. 102400 for 100 GB. Enter 0 for unlimited.
5. Set limits for Max Email Accounts, Max Databases, Max Subdomains, Max Parked Domains, and Max Addon Domains.
6. Under Permissions, choose what cPanel features this package’s accounts can access: shell access, CGI, MIME types, etc.
7. Click Add.

Use unlimited bandwidth carefully: Setting bandwidth to unlimited means accounts can use all available server bandwidth. For a shared hosting server with many accounts, set reasonable per-account limits to prevent one account from saturating the network.

Editing an existing package

1. Go to Packages → Edit a Package
2. Select the package from the dropdown
3. Change any values
4. Click Save Changes

Changes apply immediately to all accounts currently on this package.

Assigning a package to an account

When creating an account (WHM → Account Functions → Create a New Account), select the package from the Package dropdown. The account inherits all the package limits.

To move an existing account to a different package:

1. Account Functions → Upgrade/Downgrade an Account
2. Select the account
3. Select the new package
4. Click Modify

Viewing accounts per package

1. Account Information → List Accounts
2. Use the Package filter dropdown to show only accounts on a specific package

This is useful for auditing before changing a package: you can see how many accounts would be affected.
