Windows Server 2025.
When Linux simply isn't an option.
The only Windows-based OS on Cloud Cubes — essential for .NET applications, MSSQL databases, IIS web hosting, and any workload built for the Windows ecosystem.
Microsoft's server platform, four decades in the making.
Microsoft's server operating system lineage stretches back to the 1980s, evolving through MS-DOS, Windows NT, and the Server line that began with Windows NT 3.1 in 1993. The modern Windows Server era began with Windows Server 2003, which established the product's current architecture and release cadence. Each major version since — 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022, and now 2025 — has built on a foundation of enterprise stability with progressive additions in security, cloud integration, and performance.
Windows Server 2025 represents Microsoft's latest long-term server platform, introducing improved security defaults including SMB signing enabled by default, enhanced Active Directory capabilities, and better hybrid cloud integration with Azure. The OS is designed around Windows Admin Center for modern management and continues to serve as the foundation for IIS, Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory, and the entire Windows application ecosystem.
For workloads that require Windows — ASP.NET applications, MSSQL databases, Active Directory, or software that simply doesn't have a Linux equivalent — Windows Server 2025 is the only viable server OS. It is the only non-Linux option available on Cloud Cubes.

What makes Windows Server the right — and wrong — choice.
Windows Server is not a general-purpose alternative to Linux. It's the right choice for a specific set of workloads — and the wrong choice for everything else.
- The only choice for .NET / ASP.NET applications that require Windows runtime dependencies
- MSSQL Server — Microsoft's database platform runs exclusively on Windows (or Linux SQL Server — different product)
- IIS web server — the only way to run IIS, Microsoft's native web server
- Active Directory and Group Policy — enterprise Windows identity management
- RDP access — familiar GUI-based remote desktop management
- Long LTSC support — Windows Server 2025 is supported by Microsoft for 10 years
- Plesk control panel — the only major hosting panel that natively supports Windows
- Licensed — Windows Server license is a significant additional cost, billed separately
- Higher resource consumption — Windows requires more RAM and CPU for the OS itself vs Linux
- No Linux control panels — cPanel, DirectAdmin, Webuzo, RemarkablePanel are all Linux-only
- Limited open-source ecosystem — fewer open-source web server and application packages vs Linux
- Different management paradigm — PowerShell and Windows tooling vs Linux's command-line ecosystem
- More attack surface — Windows historically has a larger vulnerability surface than minimal Linux installs
Choose Windows Server when your stack requires it.
If your application runs on Windows, there is no Linux equivalent — Windows Server is simply the right tool.
.NET & ASP.NET applications
Applications built on the .NET framework or ASP.NET that require Windows runtime — the primary reason to choose Windows Server.
MSSQL Server databases
Microsoft SQL Server databases — MSSQL is the native choice for Windows-based application backends.
IIS web hosting
Internet Information Services — Microsoft's web server, required for classic ASP, WebForms, and some .NET deployments.
Active Directory
Windows identity management, Group Policy, and domain controller functionality — Windows-only.
Plesk on Windows
Plesk is the only major hosting control panel that supports Windows Server — a natural pairing.
Legacy Windows software
Enterprise applications, ERP systems, or proprietary software that only runs on Windows and has no Linux alternative.
Only Plesk supports Windows Server.
All other hosting control panels are Linux-only. If you need a panel on Windows, Plesk is the answer.
| Control Panel | Compatible | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| RemarkablePanel | — | Linux only — Ubuntu required |
| cPanel & WHM | — | Linux only — AlmaLinux or CloudLinux required |
| DirectAdmin | — | Linux only |
| Webuzo | — | Linux only |
| Enhance | — | Linux only |
| Plesk | Fully supported on Windows Server — the standard choice |
